Profiling Personalities

Given my IWSG post this month, I am working diligently towards a goal of sustaining myself. Not just because I want to be self-reliant, but because I have to be. I’m sure another place would open up to me and I can move and live there for a spell, but I don’t want to keep doing that. As they say, Need is the Mother of Invention.

Look at the name of the ship. From Red vs Blue.

I want to chronicle my journey as it pertains to writing. This blog is a major part of me, and all of you who visit my site have made it what it is. This year I expect to get to 50k views. So it’s only fitting that I keep everyone up to date.

However, this is a Writing Education blog, so I will try to throw some education in, for good measure.

Countdown to NaNo — Introduction

Participant-2014-Twitter-ProfileNovember 1st is soon upon us, and it is time for NaNoWriMo. Already been a year… what a year it has been. I published one book, which has great reviews. I have met a great number of people who have given me fantastic support. I rubbed elbow with authors, and I now have a voice within the community. A small one, but it is there.

It was last years NaNo that convinced me to become an author once more. I didn’t just complete it, I annihilated it. 50,000 words in 14 days. Will I do it again? I don’t know. I know I’ll get 50,000 words. Maybe in 40 days, maybe in 10 days.

Olfactory Imagery & Out-of-Character Moment— A-to-Z Blog Challenge, Literary Terms

OWhen you think of tough letters, your first thoughts are Q, X, Y, Z…but O? O my God, this was a tough letter to find words for. There are words, but to do what I’m trying to do, nothing good. I finally found something interesting that I think will knock your socks off, but I would prefer if you kept your feet in the air while you read this. And if you’re not wearing socks, can you slip them on first? Thank you.

Today I am doing Olfactory Imagery and Out-of-Character Moment

You know the drill, give you the words, link them together (somehow) and you let me know what you think. Great fun for everyone.

Machiavellianism & Mary Sue — A-to-Z Blog Challenge, Literary Terms

MFinally in the middle…of both the month and the alphabet. Today will be a fun one as this was the letter I was most looking forward to since I started this. It has been an uphill battle to get here, but I am proud of my commitment.

Today is Machiavellianism and Mary Sue. Two key terms, and both related to the written word.

Everyone has been great in showing their support, and I always try to respond and look at your work to show support. Thank you.

Hubris & Hemingway Code — A-to-Z Blog Challenge, Literary Terms

HHere we are on H, which gives us something easier in a week of complicated letters. But don’t worry, from here on out, we’ll get tougher letters. Wait…when I said don’t worry, I meant the opposite. Worry, panic if you have to.

Today we are doing Hubris and Hemingway Code.

As always, please post below, tell me what you think, and if I get something wrong, kindly tell me. I’m a big man*, I can take it.

*big man in a figurative way

Roleplaying Makes for a Good Writer

Between publishing my novel on Amazon to completing my NaNoWriMo 2013 novel, I did very little writing.  I did do some Fan Fiction for Star Wars The Old Republic, but never in great detail as I do with my writing.

During this time, I was actually responsible for my guild’s RP.  My guild was the Grey Jedi Order.  Eventually I became the Guild Leader.  Now roleplay comes in all forms, including pen and paper, video games, LARP, or in the bedroom.  When I did RP for SWTOR, I modeled after what a DM does for pen and paper such as Dungeons & Dragons or Mechwarrior (where my moniker mad_cat comes from).  Most people I see that did RP in MMORPG tend to do what I call Cantina events, where people are at a bar, standing around and talking.  Through dialogue they reveal stories about their character.  For me, I don’t enjoy Cantina events…I’m spending $15/month just to stand in one place?  No thank you.
