Worldbuilding #3 – Continents

worldbuilding logo2

Welcome to the third edition of the Worldbuilding series. Also, Happy Earth Day. Funny how things fall into place.

So far with this series we’ve talked about our planet and tools we’ll use. Unfortunately, we have one more tool to discuss today, however, there is the nice added benefit of starting to build your world.

After reading this and following the directions, you’ll have an outline of your continents. Exciting stuff.

#ISWG – Starting Again

InsecureWritersSupportGroup2It is the first Wednesday of the month, and that means it is time for Insecure Writer’s Support Group.

For those not familiar with this, it was started by Alex J. Cavanaugh with the idea of picking one day to share your fears and weaknesses so that you can find comfort with other writers who likely have the same fears and weaknesses.

It’s been quite some time since I have done this, and I apologize for that. I can only hope I will be doing this more often from now on.

Official NaNoWriMo Winner

Winner-2014-Web-BannerNaNoWriMo2014 - Success

On November 16th, 2014, I officially over 50,000 words. My story, which will be turned into five books, was Daygar Legacy #1 – Templar Five. The story is about Vampires in the 14th century spreading a disease that is killing humans at an alarming rate and five knights of the former Templar Knights attempt to make a deal with the devil to try to win the war.

This was a challenging time. Mostly because of my disability, I couldn’t do as much as I wanted. I aimed to finish by the 14th like I did last year. I came close, but I was shy 2 days. I think that is still very impressive. Also, given that I am a science fiction writer and I am doing Historical Fiction, Fantasy, and Paranormal, it was hard at times for me to write. Completely out of my comfort zone. As I wrote, I had to do additional research on the time period to get key facts correct.

I want to thank the creators of Write Monkey, as with their software, I was able to write my story despite my sensitivity to light. I dedicate my success this year to all those with disabilities, whether with Post-Concussion Syndrome, those with Traumatic Brain Injuries, or other disabilities that prevents someone from living they life they want. Writing was very hard for me, and the only way I did it was by forcing myself to do it, even if my brain wanted to give up. My reward is the next two weeks off.

With Thanksgiving coming up, and a few other special projects I am currently engaged in, I am taking a break from this blog. I will come back in December, hopefully to finish up my rivers on the worldbuilding tutorial. However, I will be limited in December. I plan to come back in full force in January.

Special thanks to Nicohle Christopherson for giving me emotional support during NaNo.

New Book – Pocket Sized Yarns

a1442603db30bf5976af032fe712ccd2a58e2ed7-thumbA few months back, I got invited by a friend of mine, who helped me edit Terran Psychosis to do a special project. At the time it was more of an idea and to generate who was interested. The basic idea was to write a short story in 540 words (or less). When I say story, as was stipulated in the rules, is that it had to have a clear beginning, middle, and end.

Me, I am a novelist. Tell me to give you a full story, I’ll request 54,000 words. How do I cram that into 540 words? Then again, I managed to tell a whole story with Terran Psychosis, and that was 10,000 words, and Scrapping By, which was 8,000 words. Also, back in April, I tried my hand at a few Drabbles, which is just 100 word stories.

So why not try it?

Countdown to NaNo — Introduction

Participant-2014-Twitter-ProfileNovember 1st is soon upon us, and it is time for NaNoWriMo. Already been a year… what a year it has been. I published one book, which has great reviews. I have met a great number of people who have given me fantastic support. I rubbed elbow with authors, and I now have a voice within the community. A small one, but it is there.

It was last years NaNo that convinced me to become an author once more. I didn’t just complete it, I annihilated it. 50,000 words in 14 days. Will I do it again? I don’t know. I know I’ll get 50,000 words. Maybe in 40 days, maybe in 10 days.

Kickstarter Update — Daygar Legacy Titles + Supplements

daygar legacy coming soonNot exactly big news, but important none-the-less. I have mapped out the names of my first five novels. These are subject to change, but help me know the direction I am going and makes it a bit more real. This whole thing is real for me, but with writing, things can always become more real when you are first starting out.

I won’t be listing what they are about, as these novels will be between 30 – 100 pages, and won’t have a lot of lot of description that wouldn’t ruin the story for you. However, based on some of the titles, you will be able to gleam some story off of it.

From what I can tell, I’m not the first to do a review on this book and so many have given great reviews. I’m not exactly breaking ground here in this review, but I do talk to a lot of starting writers who need a boost forward and this book is unknown to them. I hope that those writers visit my blog, so this review is for those who need a good starting point. And this book is that starting point. I do this review for anyone who hasn’t read this book because I think it deserves all attention it can get. Read more

Liebster Award – Thanks Sophie, Tasha, and Sara

liebsteraward_05142014Time once again for the Liebster Award. I had received this honor once before, and you can read that here. I thought about just ignoring it as I’ve done it once already and have a lot to do, but for my second go round I have been nominated 3 times for it. So I’m going to do it part of the way through.

Recent Updates — Research, Vampires, Phoenix Comicon

I want to apologize starting off, as I was suppose to post two posts this week and I will not be doing so. This I don’t count as a post as it is more of an apology and explanation.

Right now, I am working on getting my research done for my next book. I had hoped to be done with the first book of my new series by today and I have barely started it. So I am pushing myself hard to get things done so I can get started. I will say that my delay has proven to be fruitful.

Real quick, my next story takes place during 1300’s Europe and is a Vampire story (I know, ugh, another vampire story). Most of my research is looking at the time period and trying to be as authentic as I can be. I know I can just make stuff up, but I really want to start from a good foundation first.

I wanted to be done and published by the time of Phoenix Comicon (in June) but that won’t be happening. So instead, I will be hosting a contest for my upcoming book. I can’t go into too much details now (as I still need to work it all out) but there will be a prize to have a character named after you in my book series. My series will be a series of short novels, so like 3 short novels will likely equal 1 full novel, and I want to have 5 to 15 short novels in this first series. Stay tune for updates on that.

I also will be posting either a special story of my universe on my blog, or the first chapter. Maybe even both for members of my site, who knows.

I am also doing interviews on my site for writers most likely (open to other kind of interviews). If you care to have an interview, let me know.

I plan to re-release Terran Psychosis with some updates to the language and potentially a new book cover. I also am trying to learn how to do *.epub format (*.mobi is so much easier) so I can release it on Smashbooks. Once that occurs, I can then open my business doing discount ebook formatting.

Lastly, I will be doing a special on the Phoenix Comicon for the month of June. I plan to go 3 days and get as much as I can in the field of writing and my general geekdom.

So I will come back next week and start doing articles like before. Just be patient with me as I try to get my research done and try to get back into the swing of things.
