Madness Blog-Con PC 14 – Austin Aslan

7392660It’s easy to forget that not everyone starts off writing. We meet these wonderful writers and imagine that they spent their time doing only writing and became successful. Perhaps it is because that is what we want, so we imbue it on others.

Often times, like ourselves, writing is something done on the side, a hobby hoping to make a career. We are all there, but the most important thing is to take a dream and try to make it into something real.

I introduce Austin Aslan, who has had a full life before becoming an author.

Madness Blog-Con PC 14 – Leanna Renee Hieber

photo-by-c-johnstone-http-cassandrajohnstone-tumblr-comAn interesting experience I had in meeting with Authors, especially novelists, is that they wanted to know more about me as a person over what I was writing. I admit that I myself want to know the people behind a book more than the book itself, though I thought I was unique in that.

It is great to find that some of your idiosyncrasies are shared by other successful people and you definitely feel you are in the right place.

One of the few people I remember really well from the con is Leanna Renee Hieber.

Madness Blog-Con PC 14 – Gerimi Burleigh

headshot_gerimiburleighInitially when I went to Comicon, I was going only to meet the novelists. After my first day there, I met the majority of them. I then realized, that if I only did that, the rest of my time there would be quite boring. So I decided to go see everyone. To my surprise, those who I thought were artists, were also authors themselves. There’s a lesson to be learned here, cast a wide net.

In doing so, one of the people I met was Gerimi Burleigh. Not only is he a great artist, but also a fantastic writer.

Madness Blog-Con PC 14 – Jamie Wyman

7234286Comicon brings out the most diverse group of people. It’s a culture like no other, with everyone having a different story to tell. It’s really good to talk to people, as you never know what hidden treasure awaits at the next booth.

For our next booth, we have Jamie Wyman. I do not remember a lot of details in our conversation, but I do recall getting some pictures and her having encouraging words.

Madness Blog-Con PC 14 – Not a Villain Comic

Of the many things we see at Comicon, well… there are comics. Go figure. Oh, Comicon… now I get it. It’s been bothering me for years.

It should be noted I am not a fan of comic books. I respect the artists and the writers, and the stories they can present is truly amazing. I often like reading what the stories were about and love them.

Madness Blog-Con PC 14 – James A. Owen

jamesAOwen_PhotoStarting off our Blog-con is meeting James A. Owen. Like many booths you visit at comicon, individuals balance their time between being at their booths, hosting panels, attending panels, and exploring the scene.

It might seen glamorous being at a booth and hordes of people coming to ask you to sign their stuff and chat with you, but it is a lot of hard work. Though I imagine it is quite rewarding.

I remember thinking he was a pretty cool guy. Look forward to reading his book in the near future.

Madness Blog-Con PC 14 – Day 1

We are now on Day 1 of the Madness Blog-con PC 14. This is perhaps the least exciting of days, but I do promise to give you something wet your whistle. No, not alcohol. No matter how much you beg for it. But pictures, and lots of them. Be sure to click on them, which will give you a better view. Like Phoenix Comicon, the first day of Madness Blog-con is a prep day, so nothing too too exciting here.

IWSG – Community to the Rescue

IWSG badgeNormally I use this post to talk about something bad and depressing. To get through life, I try to ignore my bad feelings and concentrate on my writing. I use this one post a month to let out some of my pent up feelings and hope that others find use out of it.

This month, I am proud to present something positive instead.

My #PhoenixComicon Schedule

I am posting my schedule for Comicon this year. I’m sure on the surface, this is not exactly news worthy information. The reason I am posting it is to give my readers an insight on possible future articles. I plan to post a review of discussions I go to, people I meet, and any of interest I found. This will likely take me June/July/August to get all the information out. It will be a Writer’s Guide to Phoenix Comicon.

Recent Updates — Research, Vampires, Phoenix Comicon

I want to apologize starting off, as I was suppose to post two posts this week and I will not be doing so. This I don’t count as a post as it is more of an apology and explanation.

Right now, I am working on getting my research done for my next book. I had hoped to be done with the first book of my new series by today and I have barely started it. So I am pushing myself hard to get things done so I can get started. I will say that my delay has proven to be fruitful.

Real quick, my next story takes place during 1300’s Europe and is a Vampire story (I know, ugh, another vampire story). Most of my research is looking at the time period and trying to be as authentic as I can be. I know I can just make stuff up, but I really want to start from a good foundation first.

I wanted to be done and published by the time of Phoenix Comicon (in June) but that won’t be happening. So instead, I will be hosting a contest for my upcoming book. I can’t go into too much details now (as I still need to work it all out) but there will be a prize to have a character named after you in my book series. My series will be a series of short novels, so like 3 short novels will likely equal 1 full novel, and I want to have 5 to 15 short novels in this first series. Stay tune for updates on that.

I also will be posting either a special story of my universe on my blog, or the first chapter. Maybe even both for members of my site, who knows.

I am also doing interviews on my site for writers most likely (open to other kind of interviews). If you care to have an interview, let me know.

I plan to re-release Terran Psychosis with some updates to the language and potentially a new book cover. I also am trying to learn how to do *.epub format (*.mobi is so much easier) so I can release it on Smashbooks. Once that occurs, I can then open my business doing discount ebook formatting.

Lastly, I will be doing a special on the Phoenix Comicon for the month of June. I plan to go 3 days and get as much as I can in the field of writing and my general geekdom.

So I will come back next week and start doing articles like before. Just be patient with me as I try to get my research done and try to get back into the swing of things.
