IWSG – Compromise and Book Cover Reveal

It’s the first Wednesday, and that means I am writing a few short words about what is going on in my life as a writer, and either openly talk about an issue, or share wisdom I’ve uncovered.

It’s a difficult time for me right now. I was given the opportunity to live at my current location for 18 months rent free as I tried to find a way to raise money for myself so I could live. That ends this month, and I have nothing to show for it, at least financially.

I don’t know what happens to me at the end of this month. Maybe my roommate will extend my time, but I won’t ask him to do so. He’s given me more than enough already, and it would be wrong of me to do so. So I could very likely wind up in a homeless shelter or couchsurf for a few months until my next book gets enough sales that maybe I could get a studio apartment/motel.

For those who’ve visited my blog, you know I’ve been working on my next book since Christmas, working every day. This is a lot for me to handle, but I pushed through, likely doing a year or two of research within five months.

However, my next book will not be the book I thought it would be. I thought I would be releasing a book of 144 personalities of zodiac combinations mixed with Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Turns out that as great as these personalities are, they are rather extensive and detailed. It takes me 2 – 3 days just to do one. Now I could change the format and make it much shorter, but I feel that is a disservice to potential customers.

So I found a solution. Release my book in four parts, dividing them by Kiersey Temperament. Don’t worry if you don’t know what that is, but it is mostly a way of dividing MBTI. The first book I’m releasing will be based on the Artisans temperament. This will feature 16 distinct zodiac personalities from birth to old age.

It might even be better I release the four books separately, then when all are out, release a giant book. The four books together will cost $15 ($2.99 for the first, other three for $3.99), but I plan for the big book to cost $9.99.

So I’m not releasing the book I set out to, but sometimes when you compromise, you end up with something even greater, wondering why you didn’t think of it before. The only downside is that releasing it at $2.99, I will need far more customers to buy my book in order to have some money to live on.

So the book cover. Special thanks to Jason McIntyre for the cover design.

As I mentioned, you can get this on pre-order now on Amazon, and will be released on all other major retailers next month.
