IWSG – Done and Scared

IWSG badgeSo it is the first Wednesday of the month and it is time for the IWSG.

Today, or rather about 30 minutes ago, I finished my book. Templar Five is written and is now with an editor to tell me all the mistakes I made. It hasn’t hit me yet that I have finished, as I am very very exhausted. In the last 4 days I’ve done about 15,000 words.

Now that I’m done… I’m actually scared. There is a lot that I’ve done in this book that I’ve never done before. First time I’ve done fantasy, or even vampires. First time I’ve done a scene where five people are talking at once. First time I’ve done epic battle scenes. The final battle involves over ten elite vampires in full plate armour.

My fear stems from the fact that I’m worried about how it will come off. Much of the story involves traveling and that it might come off as boring. I do try to space out the fighting. I know the rule of writing, and even the science of plot and art that puts it all together, but once again, I am out of my element here.

I’ve come to realize that write what you know is advice for beginning writers. It’s also very limiting. In this day and age, we should write what we can learn, thanks to the internet. I’ve learned a lot about things I never knew before writing this story. Exciting and scary, to say the least.

I’m also afraid as there is a lot riding on this book. This is my chance to have a career in writing, and I have so much planned for this series. I don’t expect this book will be an instant success and might even take a few years for anyone to really notice… but I do need it to become enough of a success that I can release the second book. Then two books be enough of a success to release a third.

However, my eggs are not all in this proverbial basket. I do have plans to release writing help books. In trying to make myself a better writer in designing my own tools, I’ve developed the possibility of making tools for others to benefit from, and potentially make some money for myself. Truthfully, if money wasn’t an issue, there is a good chance I’d release this for free as I have tried to do in the past with other things.

I’m likely to make a few changes once I get my story back, and perhaps the time away from my story will help to make it better… though I may not have it properly edited.

For now though, I need a good break from everything and let my mind come back together. One bad thing that did happen is I lost my insurance with medicaid. I tried to renew it and kept getting conflicting information on it, until they cancelled me for not renewing. Right now I’m trying to reapply, but I personally would rather earn money and get actual insurance for myself so I can find a doctor who will actually treat me.

Thank you to everyone who has given me support during this tough period in my life, and thank you for those who helped me with my crowdfunding to give me a chance at writing.

“The plot is an incredibly intriguing one, and it certainly picks up after a few revealing details.”

“It’s hard to say much without giving the story away but I can say that there are a few twists in the plot that you probably won’t expect.”

DL - T5 - Smashwords Cover miniRead the series that makes vampires a scary monster in the shadows once more, and the bravery of knights as the one weapon to stop their spread of a deadly disease.

[Author] writing is powerful and inspite of absence of gory descriptions, the fear factor exists. There is an aura of fear and valour at the same time.
