IWSG – Upcoming Changes

IWSG badgeFirst Wednesday of the month, and here I am to discuss stuff. I use to be more eloquent. Normally I’d be discussing something depressing in reference to my disability or a bit of good news, however, this time I am doing something different…

I’m discussing a lot of good news.

Help Keep This Site Running

This site is a great achievement for me, but due to being unable to work, I may not be able to keep this site running. With your help, I might be able to.

I need $125 by October 30th, 2017. Anything you can give will help.

I guess I’ll start with the major news. On May 2nd, 2015; my Pubslush campaign was a success. Or rather, a semi-success. I initially asked for $3000. I didn’t get that. I wish I had, as that would have set me up to write 4 books. The semi-success part comes in that if I make $500 or above, that is money I can take home. I made $750. For those who donated, I will create a special page on my blog for you as a thank you.

Big shout out to Mercedes Carrera. She was very helpful in my campaign and I owe a great deal for said help. Anyone reading this, if you get a chance, check out her twitter and also look at her Porn Charity. She helps raise money for important causes (which is how I met her).

This is an opportunity for me to get a book out, and have a giant step forward. My Kickstarter only gained me $212. My Pubslush campaign is over 250% of an improvement. What I did differently is that during my Kickstarter and Pubslush is I tried to gain fans, rather than ask other writers for help. Don’t get me wrong, my writing friends are great, but all of them are trying to get their own book out there, and even though it is a good cause for me (given my disability).

So now I’m on the path to get my book done. I hope to gain enough sales to get the next one out, and then the two books is enough for the 3rd, and then the 4th and so on, until I have enough to take care of myself.

Other news is a change in my blog. During April I did the A to Z Challenge. I didn’t finish it though as I was just too burned out with also doing my campaign. I didn’t get X, Y, or Z done. However, I did get a few Worldbuilding articles done and in fact finished up the map-making series. Furthermore, I reposted a few articles which I intend to finish, and much to my surprise, I had over 6,000 views in one month. In fact, my re-release of Worldbuilding #1 had over 1000 views in one day.

Not to mention, that for the entire year of 2015, I got 9,369 views with 4,470 total viewers. In 2014, I got 14,097 views and 5,572 viewers. So far in 2015 I have met 66% of my views of last year and 80% of my total viewers.

More than that, 80% of my views in April were for worldbuilding articles. For the entirety of my website, 70% of my views were for worldbuilding. I’d say that 20% were for my Literary terms I did for A to Z challenge and 10% were for a variety of other articles.

In light of that, I am shifting focus on my website to focus more on worldbuilding articles. Like to do 2 a month. While I finished the map making series, I am doing a new series that from what I can tell, is something that has never been done before. More to follow on that.

I am also going to do 1 Literary term a month. Then have 1 article about something random. Total of four articles a month, rather than the standard 7 to 8 articles. Write what people come to see.

So I guess my last big announcement, in light of my Pubslush campaign and my need to find an income for myself, is that I’ve decided to start my own publishing company. It will be for indie writers to get self-published. What I offer is what people can do themselves, but rather than doing it, I will be helping them out with it so they can put more time into writing. To this respect, I won’t be all that different from any other publishing company, but it is my desire to train people. Of course, it is a job that wants to make money.

The money earned from my pubslush campaign will be just for my book. However, the marketing aspect will be channeled through the new company, and any resources gained for my book, I can apply to my company. For now, the Publishing company will cater to my books only, but in the future, I will see about obtaining other clients.

I tend to be a realist in life, and while I am positive I can make the business work, I am under no delusion that this will be difficult and quite possibly fail. Taking that attitude, I look at why some companies fail and see what I can learn from that.

Another thing I will do is that all the writing tips and marketing tips I had on my site will now go towards my publishing company website. I figure it will get more response there.

I guess that does it for this months IWSG. Wish me luck, I’ve got a lot to do in a very short time.
