It was a rough transition from a wordpress free site to my own hosting account. I got little traffic at first. Then I had the AtoZ challenge, which put me on the map and I got a lot of views.
Then, after attending Comicon and showing off my maps, and a writer suggested I post on reddit. Over night my blog got a lot of traffic. So much so, about a few days ago, I hit 16,000 total views with 6500 visitors. Which is an average of 1,333 views and 542 visitors per month. I’ve had many blogs before and they usually failed.
My Worldbuilding series has been highly successful. You always want to find a niche for your blog to give people a reason to come to your site, and worldbuilding has been it. About 90% of total views has been for the Worldbuilding series.
I need $125 by October 30th, 2017. Anything you can give will help.
In that year, I tried a number of other thing that fell short. Such as doing my own Blog Convention, which was basically my experience at Phoenix Comicon. I also did interviews, which tend to be long and no one really watched. I also did a number of contests which got poor reception.
Failure is a part of success though. You can’t win them all and the only way to know what works and what doesn’t is trying things out and seeing the results. It’s a gamble of time. Often times it can be worth it.
Which is most surprising is that I really stopped using my blog in November. After the failure of my Kickstarter and completing NaNoWriMo, I needed a break from writing. Kickstarter hit me hard, because I gave so much energy to its success, working every day to get the message out there and I felt like a failure.
Since then, I redirected my creativity elsewhere, working on egalitarian pursuits. Wanting to make the world a better place. Recently I decided to make that part of my life known. With that, my website will remain dedicated to writing education only. Rarely will there be any mention of anything else going on.
At this time, I am looking to do another crowdfunding campaign to try to raise money for my career. It’s another longshot, but I feel more confident now that I might be able to be successful. I am likely going with Pubslush or Indiegogo. Not 100% sure yet, but I want something that if I make money, I keep that money.
Right now though I am doing some charity work for Cytherea. You can learn more about her here. I am doing an event with Mercedes Carrera this coming Sunday. You can view the event here if you wish to participate. Please note that this post is not my official announcement of this event.
I do plan on doing the AtoZ challenge next month. Likely to do literary terms, but only one each day. Last years good idea quickly became a nightmare of epic proportions. I also have a book to write, and try to get several books this year done.
Lastly is my Worldbuilding series. I am waiting for the event to be done before I start that up again. I do want to finish the map making portion and then do the actual building of your world.
I think that is all as far as announcements go. Going to takes some time to get back into the swing of things.
