Happy 1 year Anniversay

balloonsToday’s in an important day for me. It is the day that I celebrate my 1 year anniversay as being a writer. This time last year, after the success of NaNo and finishing up my novel that year, I decided that I must be an author again.

After that, I set myself to a five year plan. I got myself a blog and started using twitter to market myself. I signed up for a lot of blogs and social media sites. In that time I have learned and accomplished many things.

I learned that everyone wants to be a writer, and has the next million dollar idea. However, very few have the tenacity to actually writer, and even fewer have the drive to make it into something. The remaining few wants to do traditional publishing and will make any sacrifice to do it. Nothing wrong with that honestly, but their motives come into question when they think their one novel will be the next Harry Potter Novel.

I of course went into the direction of Independent Publishing. Some might see that as the easy way out, but it is anything but. Whether you go Traditional Publishing or Independent Publishing, it is a lot of hard work to get people to buy your book.

This time last year I had 15 followers on twitter. Now, I have 710. Nearly 700 in 12 months. Almost 60 new followers a month, or 2 new followers a day. I have nearly 300 followers on Goodreads as well.

I started a blog around this time, but then moved to my own website in March. In that time, I have 13,500 views. Averaging about 1500 views a month. Most of it is my Worldbuilding series, but I worked very hard on that and even today, still nets me about 20 – 50 views a day.

In my first year, I published a book. Terran Psychosis. It has 8 reviews on Amazon with an average of 4.5 stars. I think as I do more books, it will increase in popularity. My other book, Scraping By, has gotten some attention as well, positive reviews by friends. Not my greatest work, but then it wasn’t suppose to be. Lastly, I got a chance to get a short story published in a free ebook of other indie writers. The story was 540 words long, and it help teach me a lot about how to improve my writing. The book is called Pocket-sized Yarns.

Of course, any great successes come with a fair share of failures. My Kickstarter comes to mind. It really affected me. Part of the reason I haven’t done much on my blog. I want to, but between that and my disability, it has been hard to get back into the swing of things. I’m truckin’ through though. But out of the $3000 I asked for, I got $200. At the end of it all, I can honestly say that I did everything I possibly could. With any failure, you need to ask yourself what can you take away with this, and I say that more people know of me now than ever before.

I turn that failure and gave myself the drive to writer my next novel. I’m about 50% done with it and hope to get the rest of it done by January. I may have had a great defeat, but there is life in me again. I’m ready to go at it again and try to claw my way to the top. It is a long hard road, but after one year, I can say this:

I’M STILL HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to all of those who supported me over the year. Those who helped me get my stories out, those who helped me with my Kickstarter campaign, those who I call my friends, and thank you to all my followers. You all give me the drive to move forward.

Lastly, to all those that suffer from Post-Concussion Syndrome, I say that while this condition affects you greatly, you can still do great things.
