Update to my Kickstarter Situation

daygar legacy coming soonSome of you already know about this, but many of you who have tried to donate have seen that it won’t let you. I’m going to go over what has happened and what is happening with my Kickstarter.

For the last month, I had worked hard on getting everything in place. I had 3 months worth of work to do within a few weeks. I did everything I could to check and double check and then check once more that I got everything right and I didn’t break any rules.

It’s like Murphey’s Law states, “If you anticipate 5 things to go wrong, then a 6th thing will go wrong.” Sure enough, something went wrong that I didn’t anticipate. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do to prevent it.

I’m certain this happened from the moment I went Live but I wasn’t told of this until day 2. When I first looked at my total of $0.00, I was bummed. But I told myself it is the first day, not a big deal. Then the next day, still felt bummed. Then I got an email stating there was something wrong with the payment system. I created a new Kickstarter account to test the setting, and sure enough, it prevents people from donating.

I called Amazon immediately. I spoke to them on the phone for a few minutes and I was told is was a known issue and “they” were working on it and it would be resolved in a few minutes. I’ve worked in the tech support industry for nearly 8 years before my accident, and I know that “they” really means some person that we don’t know exists or not is working on the issue. Tech support is a song and dance and I’ve got to let them open up with a promise and later call them out on it.

I was told it would be up within a few hours. I waited five hours… still failing. So I called again and was told that this is a normal problem that usually resolves itself. However, the woman on the phone said they would escalate the issue up and she would call me back the next day to let me know of the update. She didn’t call back the next day. Bless her heart, she did email me to let me know the “techs” are working on it, but she is off for the weekend, so I won’t hear back from her until Monday.

Techs is another term for them. Techs are the magical beings that can fix anything. Of course, the techs don’t communicate with those on the phone, so anything the support agent says is mostly a guess. I’m sorry if I sound jaded, but I am in fear that I may lose supporters that would have donated to me and this Kickstarter is really important to me.

I did email Kickstarter support about being refunded days that I lost due to this issue. They said that they were unable to do that. Funny that they designed the system, but they gave a good alternate solution. Basically cancel my Kickstarter and do a new one. I will most likely do that, as I suspect that this issue could go on another few days to up to a month. I want the problem resolved first before I attempt another campaign.

I know it is not my fault, but I just feel defeated right now. It’s like another thing to pile onto the BS of my situation. I really want to give Amazon the benefit of the doubt right now, but I also want to be angry at them. I will say that I do treat those on the phone with the utmost respect, as I’ve been a phone agent too and know what it is like. I want to be angry right now, but that won’t solve anything, so I continue working on this campaign, even if nothing is happening with it right now.

In light of this issue, for those who are remaining patient to donate, when my campaign is resolved, I will be posting a special announcement, offering some stretch goals. I also will have other news available as well. Pay attention to my twitter and blog for updates on my situation. Also, look at the updates section on my Kickstarter.

I may feel low right now, but I am not out for the count just yet. I still have some fight left in me and I will continue to work hard to make this a very successful campaign.
