Grammar Slam — Wrestlers Teach Grammar

Once again, I hate grammar, but it is necessary to be successful.  It is one of those things you must always study for so you don’t forget.  And in my study, I found something odd.  A Professional Wrestler, CM Punk, teaching grammar.  Now when you think of Wrestlers, you think of big muscular dudes in tights hitting each other (except Rey Mysterio, he’s short).  The truth is, that while they do beat each other up, many are quite intelligent and do have something to say.

Grammar…Why Did it Have to be Grammar — Active vs Passive Voice

I hate grammar.  When it comes to grammar, I suck at it, though I would argue that I am better than most.  The biggest problem I have with it is English teachers.  The rules they teach us are not always rules but are actually stylized choices.  Such as starting a sentence with a conjunction, ending a sentence with a preposition, using a passive voice sentence.  All of these are not grammar mistakes, but a style choice for your writing.  Let us explore Active vs Passive voice.

Tools of the trade — AutoHotKey

All writers have their little tricks and shorthand to be better writers, and I am no different.  Some of what I do seems unnecessary while other things I do are almost unheard of from others.  What I do is what works for me and I share this with my followers (both present and future) in hopes that it helps other writers.

Worldbuilding #4 — Ocean, Continents, Lakes, and Islands

Welcome back to the next edition of the Worldbuilding series. Hope you’re enjoying it so far, I know I am. Today we’ll be focusing on the base coating of our world. We’ll be adding some colour, but it will not be our final colors. I know you want to get to designing some of the details of the world, and we’ll get there very soon, but this is a crucial step. In just a little bit, you will see why.

Liebster Award Nomination

Until a few days ago, I actually never heard of this. Then again, I’ve never really had a blog anyone was ever interested in. This is actually my 5th blog I’ve ever had.

I got a nomination from Alison Strachan and I was a bit surprised. A chance to win an award and bring people to my new site. Show people what great elements can be found here and perhaps get some people to sign up so I can deliver member specific content. Then I found out it was essentially a chain mail.

Character and Plot Assassination — Thor: The Dark world

MV5BMTQyNzAwOTUxOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTE0OTc5OQ@@._V1_SY1100_CR70,0,630,1100_Marvel has done amazing work in recent years with the Avengers and the movies associated, giving excitement into the movies that branch off this core movie that brings our characters together. A movie universe similar to that of Harry Potter that every person gets something to enjoy.

I feel this started with the Blade movies, but we really saw things come together with Iron Man which led us to the Avengers movie and so much built off of that. What does Marvel have in store for us with Thor: The Dark World?

Worldbuilding #3 — Continents

Welcome to the third edition of the Worldbuilding series. I’m sorry I can get these out soon enough. I want to, but a lot goes into making these. Now I know the first two were kind of boring, that it was all informational and not about actually creating. Now we get to the fun stuff.

Grammar…Why Did it Have to be Grammar — Affect vs Effect

This is one of my most favorites, and by favorites, I mean one I hate a lot. While I am not a scholar of the English language (I wish I were, you know how much I could make editing other people’s writing?), I do consider myself better that most people in the world. To that effect (see what I did there), this issue throws me for quite the loop. You can memorize the definitions all you want, most people will trip over this one and land head first in the land of bad grammar.

Unveiling of my New Site

One of the key important things for writers of the new age is a Platform. It’s hard to think that when you become an Author, not only are you trying to sell your book, but you are also marketing yourself and your voice. Selling your book is simply writing and advertisement, but yourself and your voice, that is everything you do.

I am still starting out, but I have been fortunate to have over 360 views in the last 90 days, averaging 4 – 5 views a day. I think that is a great start, but certainly it can be better and I aim to do so. For right now my site is not too dissimilar than it was before, but as we move on, there will be changes to the site.

Some things you will notice is more support for Facebook. You can use your Facebook account to log into my site and leave comments. You can still login with your WordPress login if you choose and there are ways for you to comment as well. There are membership settings as well. You will be able to design yourself a profile. Also, there is more integration of social network sites, and newsletter sign up.

I have many plans coming up and as I get things configured, I will update the site with that information. Now most people just get a wordpress page and go with the basics. Nothing wrong with that in the least. You keep putting articles out there about the writing field to help try to teach and expand the community, I will follow you. But it is my hope that as I handle my disability, I transform my life into my new career and create a community to my works and my friends works.

Please note, that you don’t have to become a member to still have access to my posts.

I do love feedback, so I ask that if you have any problems and/or suggestions, please let me know. If you had a subscription from the previous page, you will need to follow me on this page as they are two separate locations. I will leave the site up until March 15th, and then try to move my favorites and followers here.
