Character and Plot Assassination — The Lone Ranger

So I recently watched the Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. But reading what others thought, it was mixed reviews. While it had a great pace and good narrative, there were a few unexplained things such as the mysterious prison escape and Tonto appearing in the right place to bury the bodies or jumping from a height onto a box car of silver.

I can understand these kinds of issues as they are plot holes and ignoring the laws of physics to add “oooh” and “ahhh” that can be cut out or changed and not affect the plot. And I myself would be up in arms if I didn’t take one detail into consideration, that this is told from an old Tonto to a young boy.

Tonto is not exactly mentally stable to begin with, and mix in the fact that he’s an old man on display at a museum, then it is quite possible that some details will be skewd. and skipped over. It is a justification to explain something in a movie, something I normally hate, but I am willing to accept that some of the details in the movie were exaggerated, which is something we do as humans.

I give the film an A-. Great narrative and great music and just overall a great film.
